We firmly believe that Sheffield is the perfect place to be a dog owner. With the Peak District on our doorstep and plenty of scenic parks around the city, there’s no shortage of long walks for dogs and their owners, but beyond that, Sheffield is packed full of dog friendly places as well. There are literally hundreds of dog friendly pubs, cafes, restaurants, shops, and more around the city with DogFriendlySheffield.co.uk already listing in excess of 200 different places and growing all the time.
The Dog Friendly Sheffield awards are to celebrate dog friendly businesses around the city. We asked Sheffield dog owners to nominate their favourite dog friendly locations with the top 6 nominated making a shortlist in each category. We put those shortlists out for a public vote which hit roughly 500 votes in total and we are DELIGHTED to announce the winners for 2021.
Best Dog Friendly Pub/Bar in Sheffield 2021
Winner: Pangolin Craft Beer
This category is always one of the toughest to call, 54 different dog friendly pubs were nominated from around the city, but it was Pangolin Craft Beer that took the crown with 30% of the final vote.
Pangolin is a craft beer bar and bottle shop conveniently located just next to Hillsborough park which makes it the perfect place to stop for a ‘cheeky one’ after a wander around the park with your four-legged friend.
Not only is Pangolin a friendly and welcoming place, the owners even have their own dog who you’ll regularly spot on their social media – Rolo the Greyhound. Doggie visitors can also take advantage of the dog bar as well.
This year we teamed up with Sheffield’s premier beerfluencers Pints of Sheffield for this category, here is their verdict on Pangolin: “On the beer front (we know that’s why you’re here) there are 5 keg and 3 cask beers available at the bar as well as a plethora of cans and bottles to try too. Plus Nick, Jo and the team are always more than happy to talk you through their latest offerings!
“You can sample their ever-changing lineup of cask and keg beers, specialty wines by @kaskwine , or any of their quite astonishing range of tins, bottles, craft ciders, AF beers, or even canned cocktails by @haveavacay!”
Special Mention: The Sheaf View in Heeley
Best Dog Friendly Cafe in Sheffield 2021
Winner: Molly's Cafe & Deli
It’s another big win for Hillsborough, in fact, the best dog-friendly cafe is just across the road from the best dog-friendly bar! That means that Molly’s is perfectly located just outside of Hillsborough park so that you can grab something sweet or something savoury to enjoy on your walk or to have as a treat afterwards.
Molly’s came runner up in this category in 2020, so we get the feeling it’s a big hit with dog owners in the Hillsborough side of the city. If you follow them on Instagram then you’ll have an idea why they are so popular. Their Anglo-Polish inspired food menu will have your mouth watering.
If you don’t live in Hillsborough, why not make a trip out of it and head to the local park, or even nearby Rivelin Valley.
Special Mention: Treehouse Boardgame Cafe in Highfield and Four Corners Canteen in Nether Edge
Best Dog Friendly Food Hall in Sheffield 2021
Winner: Cutlery Works
Our only back-to-back winners are Cutlery Works, they took home the win in 2020 and they’ve done it again in 2021 with 37% of the vote!
It’s no surprise that Cutlery Works is popular among dog owners, the food hall down in Neepsend is a perfect spot for dog owners, families, couples, groups of friends and more. Choose from a number of vendors serving up a serious variety of food styles, and just recently Cutlery Works have even started to serve up dog friendly ice creams for your four-legged friend.
The laidback atmosphere and spaced out tables make it a comfortable space for your dog, while you get a chance to enjoy the mouth-watering food on offer.
Special Mention: Kommune in Sheffield City Centre
Best Dog Friendly Beer Garden in Sheffield 2021
Winner: Wisewood Inn
During the pandemic a good beer garden was arguably one of the most important things a pub could have thanks to ever-changing restrictions. Nobody loves a beer garden quite like a dog owner, a chance for a beer in the sunshine after a long walk is a weekend well spent, and this year the crown of best beer garden goes to the Wisewood Inn.
This was our closest category this year with just 6 votes separating 1st and 3rd in the voting.
Wisewood Inn is a Loxley Brewery pub in the Loxley area of Sheffield and their stunning, huge beer garden has plenty of space for dogs and their owners. With views looking out over lush green scenery, Wisewood Inn is an idyllic spot for a summer pint after a long walk around the Loxley valley.
Special Mention: Riverside in Kelham Island
Best Dog Friendly Spot for Sunday Lunch 2021
Winner: Wisewood Inn
Not satisfied with just 1 award, Wisewood Inn fans also showed their support for their favourite pub’s Sunday roast, and they even managed to knock off last year’s winner The Old Horns Inn.
There’s nothing quite like a Sunday lunch after a long dog walk and the idyllic surroundings of Wisewood Inn make it an ideal spot to get your fill of food after your Sunday walk. The pub has picked up 15 5-star reviews on Tripadvisor just for their Sunday lunch alone who all rave about it being one of the best Sunday roasts in Sheffield with a good selection of meats, well cooked vegan and perhaps most importantly- fantastic value for money.
If it’s too cold to enjoy their award-winning beer garden, you can always pop in and try out their award-winning Sunday lunch.
Special Mention: Old Horns Inn in Bradfield
