As you’ve probably guessed by now, our Labrador Eddie comes everywhere with us, and when he’s not with us, it’s likely a sleepover at somebody else’s house. He’s got a big soft bed, but dragging it from place to place had finally taken it’s toll and we were in the market for a new bed.
For reference here was Eddie’s old bed
The bed served him well for a good few years, we’re quite lucky that Ed isn’t a bed destroyer. The only downside to this bed was that it was really quite cumbersome and heavy when carting it to somebody else’s house or away on a weekend break.
So what do we look for in a dog bed? We learned early on that Eddie likes his own comfortable space, he loves our space, but he likes to have his own little spot to retire to when he’s had enough of us. When crate training a puppy you’re told to make it feel like it’s their den, their safe space. So when Eddie was out of crates we always stuck with beds that had sides so he could snuggle up into the corner of them. Beyond that, the bed had to be pretty spacious – anyone else’s dog like to sleep on their back with everything on show? Yeah, you get the idea.
When we were contacted by the good folks at Pets and Friends to see if we would be willing to test out something from a new Eco-Friendly dog bed range from Project Blu that they had in stock, it felt like perfect timing.
We opted for this colourway, but there are a number of different styles available to choose from. This is the Project Blu Adriatic Domino Dog Bed and retails for £119.
A little about Project Blu
Project Blu are a brand that talk about creating eco-friendly and sustainable dog products. More and more of us are thinking harder about the products that we purchase, with so many buy it cheap, bin it quick products ending up in landfill. Project Blu products are made with 100% recycled materials that would otherwise end up polluting our environment. They utilise ocean-bound plastics and used clothing from some of the world’s poorest regions to create their fabrics and fillings. We’ll always need new products, so it’s important for brands to find innovative ways to have a positive impact when creating their products.
They’ve transformed over 6 million plastic bottles since starting in 2019 and there are at least 41 1.5l plastic bottles in the creation of each of their dog beds. Project Blu is a UK based company with their products crafted in Tuscany, Italy with the finest craftsmanship.

Reviewing Ed’s New Bed
The bed arrived packed up tight in a box and when we fluffed it out the first thing we noticed was how much lighter it was than his old bed. That was the first plus point for us as it meant we could take his bed with us when we went away and it wouldn’t be a burden.
Ed loves a routine, he knows what he likes and he likes what he knows, and because of that we were worried that he wouldn’t take to a new bed very quickly, but we needn’t have worry because this was him literally 10 minutes after opening the package:
The sides of the bed are much softer than his old bed, it’s not quite as rigid but that didn’t turn out to be an issue as he seems to like using the sides as a pillow.
Labradors take a lot of space when they sleep, so Eddie using the Extra Large sized bed which measures out at 110cm x 85cm x 20cm with plenty of sleeping space.
While the bed may side more to the pricey side of dog beds, I feel like for those who want to make a conscious effort to purchase more sustainable products and support brands that are doing great work in that area, then it is perhaps worth spending a little more to ensure you know that your products are well made but also coming from a good place.
As far as a review from Eddie himself, the bed seems super snoozable and he tends to fidget and roll around in it a lot less than his old bed. It’s really soft, lightweight but feels like it’s been made well.
