Nether Edge and specifically Abbeydale Road is a real hive for Sheffield independents, with everywhere offering something just that little bit different. We reckon Abbeydale might well be Sheffield’s most dog-friendly street, with plenty of venues willing to welcome you and your dog. If you head beyond the Broadfield, a little further up around the corner you’ll find North Town serving up fantastic Italian food and coffees on the roadside, it’s the ultimate continental feel that will help you escape Sheffield to the back streets of Naples, if only for a little while.

North Town Kitchen Italian Deli & Kitchen Review
You can’t miss North Town if you’re passing, if they’re open you’re sure to see the neon ‘Holy Cannoli’ sign in the window, and even if they’re shut you’ll see their ‘Home of the Cannoli’ message on the shutters. You can’t read a North Town review without hearing everyone rave about how tasty their cannoli is, you’ll find a selection of flavours available which are always changing. You don’t need me tot ell you about them, just look at them:
North Town doesn’t have any indoor seating, but they do have some high tables outside to eat at the Deli, or their menu is also available for takeaway and delivery. You’ll be greeted by some of the friendliest service you’re likely to find in Sheffield when you arrive and browse their menu. Choose from fresh-baked pizzas, pastas through to their paninis and small plates.
As mentioned, we’ve visited a couple of times, once when Eat out to Help Out was on where we filled our faces with their pasta dishes including the super tasty Rigatoni Ragu followed by their Chocolate Tarte and what I’m reliably informed was one of the best Tiramisus in Sheffield (from someone who picks Tiramisu any time it’s on a menu)
The Tiramisu is definitely a sharer (unless you really love Tiramisu and you’ve somehow saved enough space after your pasta to fit it in). The guys who run North Town are always willing to talk you through their food, something they’re obviously proud of an passionate about. If you follow them on Instagram you can keep up with their trips back to Italy testing out new dishes and drinks for the menu.
The pasta and the pizzas are great, but for me personally what steals the show is the Sicilian meatball panini. Their lamb meatballs topped with melted taleggio cheese It’s possibly one of the best I’ve ever had and it’s certainly made me want to try the spaghetti and meatballs next time we go back.
It’s worth making the trip down to this end of Abbeydale Road to try these guys out, you won’t regret it. If you’re visiting in the autumn, it’s probably worth wearing a coat, but no less worth a visit. They have recently launched their autumnal menu as well.
If you don’t fancy eating at the restaurant, you can also order for takeaway or home delivery. They also operate as a deli, so you’re able to buy the bread and tasty coffees that they serve directly from the shop as well.
